Lincoln High School offers four courses designed for students who want to focus on deepening their acting and performing skills.


performance exploration

This course is designed for the student interested in dramatic activities with an emphasis on performance. It is designed to accommodate students who have no experience or may have previously been involved in theatre. Students will use various creative drama techniques to build confidence and trust, stimulate imagination, movement, and role-play. Through theatre games and activities, students will learn to lose inhibitions and will gain trust in themselves as well as others in their groups. Areas covered in depth include: vocabulary, roles in the theatre, pantomime, movement, acting (scene work and one act plays), theatre evaluation, and theatre history (from ancient Greek to the present), the reading of plays, basic technical theatre, and attendance at a live theatre performance. Students will be involved every day in some performance-based activity. There is an emphasis on memorization, working as a team, and classroom attendance. Students will be creating projects throughout the term in groups/ teams just as they would encounter in the professional theatre world.


intermediate theatre

This course is designed for students to continue their study of the dramatic arts, with an emphasis on acting methods, playwriting, devising, and technique. This course is designed for students who have already taken Performance Exploration and/or students who have extensive previous theatre experience, specifically in participating in mainstage productions. Students will use various creative drama techniques to build confidence and trust, stimulate imagination, movement, and performance skills. Through creating and producing multiple productions in class, students will increase their knowledge and capability in many facets of theatre. Additionally, this class is combined with the IB SL and IB HL Theatre students, and collaboratively, all students will be involved every day in some performance-based activity. There is an emphasis on preparedness, working as a team, and classroom attendance. Students will be creating projects throughout the term in groups/ teams just as they would encounter in the professional theatre world.


IB SL & IB HL Theatre

This course is designed for students to continue their in-depth study of the dramatic arts, with an emphasis on acting methods, playwriting, devising, directing and producing. This course is designed for students who have already taken Intermediate Theatre and/or students who have extensive theatre experience, specifically in participating in mainstage productions. Following the IB curriculum and standards, IB SL & HL students have leadership roles in the class, oftentimes functioning as the director, producer, and leader for group activities. Through creating and producing multiple productions in class, students will increase their knowledge and capability in many facets of theatre. Additionally, this class is combined with the Intermediate Theatre students, and collaboratively, all students will be involved every day in some performance-based activity. There is an emphasis on preparedness, working as a team, and classroom attendance. Students will be creating projects throughout the term in groups/ teams just as they would encounter in the professional theatre world.

Lincoln High School offers TWO courses designed for students who want to focus on developing their knowledge and skills in technical theatre.


Design Workshop

This course is designed for the student interested in dramatic activities with an emphasis on technical theatre. It is designed to accommodate students who have no experience or may have previously been involved in technical theatre. Students will use various creative drama techniques to build confidence and trust, stimulate imagination, and produce creative theatrical designs. Through teacher-led instruction and activities, students will be introduced to several different areas of technical theatre, including but not limited to, set design and set building, lighting design, costume design, rigging/flying, and sound engineering. Students will be involved every day in some technical theare activity. There is an emphasis on safety, working as a team, and classroom attendance. Students will be creating projects throughout the term in groups/ teams just as they would encounter in the professional theatre world.


ADVANCED Design Workshop

Students in Advanced Design Workshop must first successfully pass Design Workshop; and/or if a student has extensive experience in aspects of technical theatre, they can qualify for Advanced Design. Advanced Design Workshop students work collaboratively with the Design Workshop students as leaders of specific units. Alongside the instructor, they present lessons, coaching, modeling, and assistance for the Design Workshop students. Advanced design workshop students also actively participate in technical aspects for the Lincoln productions of that school year.


Through our theatre courses, students receive opportunities to work with industry professionals on a variety of topics and interests!
